p>Highlight of 2008 was the BGA team's trip to the World Mind Sports Games (WMSG) in Beijing. Although no medals were won, the team did better than expected, especially in the Women's Team and Men's Individual sections. New during 2008 was the new-look BGA website, with a modern feel, menus and search facilities to aid navigation.

The 2009 Youth Championships had 39 competitors aged from 6 to 18, with strengths from 1 dan to 35 kyu, at King Edward VI School, Aston. Tian Ren Chen from Loughborough was the new youth champion with 5 straight wins including beating London's Michael Webster (4 kyu). Prizes and places went to:
