The aim of getting Go as well known with the British public as chess is a long way off; but that is the direction in which we are aiming. We do this by talking to the press and radio and TV with the aim of encouraging coverage of Go and Go events, and by lobbying local and national politicians.

| British Go Journal Editor |
The Journal Editor is responsible for the production of up to four editions of the Journal every year. Distribution is handled by the Membership Secretary. The main tasks that need to be undertaken to produce it are the collation, selection and layout of the Journal contents in preparation for printing. This includes the production of game diagrams (also in a format for the website) and typesetting. Another task is liaising with the printers. Maintaining and expanding the pool of contributors, and developing content through commissioning and discussions with contributors, is also of great importance. |

Paul, 50, lives in Cambridge. He works as a software developer at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge. He learned to play Go when he was 9 years old from a book by the games collector R C Bell. He later started a Go club in his school and they competed in the British Schools Championship in 1980.
He was promoted to 1-dan in 1993 and 2-dan in 1996.
Toby learned the rules of Go when he was a teenager in the 1960’s, but it was when he went to Cambridge in 1971 that he first really concentrated on the game. During his three years at University he got to be 1 kyu, and was firstly secretary then President of the University Go Society.
We're pleased to be able to announce that the European Go Federation have awarded us the European Youth Go Championship for 2014.
We're currently proposing that it be held in conjunction with the British Open in March or April 2014 in the Butlins resort, Bognor Regis.
Final dates should be announced early in 2013.
We're setting up an organisation team to look after this project, so if you
This year's Shodan Challenge is now under way. There were some problems with people dropping out last year, so this year's set-up is more casual. There are no specific pairs of mentors/mentees; instead we have a teaching ladder system, whereby you can submit games for review, and review other people's games. There's also an option to arrange friendly matches and teaching games.
Jon is a retired IT professional living in East Sussex and learnt to play Go at school at the tender age of 14, becoming 1 dan and British Champion in 1965. He was Champion for 11 of the next 12 years, ending up by being promoted to 6 dan, but retiring to spend more time with his family (as they say) in 1977.
