Current as of 27th April 2008.
The BGA is dependent on volunteers to continue member services as well as undertake more ambitious activities. We have a number of vacant posts at present and we would like to hear from any member willing to assist with the development of Go in the UK.
To see more about each post see the Job Description pages.
If you are interested in any of these vacancies, please contact the person indicated.
Please volunteer to Anna Griffiths (Committee Chairman) if you are interested in any of these vacancies.
There is a vacancies for a Recruitment Official. Recruitment Official is an important new job for someone to help reverse the decline in membership that has happened over the last couple of years. Initially, it will suit an ideas person who will suggest initiatives to stimulate membership of the BGA. If Council approves these, either the same person can be in charge of implementation - or another volunteer could be asked to do that whilst the the original person goes on to conjour up new ideas!
There are some vacancies for Regional Reps and also some Regional Reps who only hold these positions reluctantly.
Please volunteer for these positions to Brian Brunswick (Committee Chairman).
These are two new positions designed to develop the BGA's services in the area of go teaching. It might suit the same person to take on both roles.
With teaching in clubs, the idea is not (necessarily) for the Official to actually do any teaching but to suggest initiatives that would improve the way that clubs approach this. Currently, clubs do a considerable amount of informal mentoring and player development - but mabe it could be improved?
How about setting up a roving teaching class that would offer its services - maybe for a fee? - to clubs up and down the country?
The difference with Teaching Events is that these events would be advertised generally rather than being intended for local club members. Currently, for example, Steve Bailey from the West Surrey Club runs an excellent West Surrey Teach-in. Maybe we should be encouring more clubs to do similar; maybe the BGA should organise its own events? Again, maybe we should consider making a charge?
How about teaching sessions at tournaments? We've already started to do that with the Shodan Challenge events.
Please volunteer to Toby Manning (Committee Chairman).
There are some vacancies for Regional Youth Reps and also some Regional Youth Reps who only hold these positions reluctantly.
