This is one of the BGA Job Descriptions pages.
The British Go Journal is produced by the British Go Association and is a principal benefit of membership. The Journal Editor is responsible for the production of up to four editions of the Journal every year. These are sent free of charge to members of the BGA. Distribution is currently handled by the Membership Secretary.
The BGJ contains a wide variety of news, articles, letters and other items together with many photographs and diagrams. The content is provided by a great variety of contributors, all of whom give of their time and effort voluntarily. It is widely recognised as one of the best national Go journals in the world.
The main tasks that need to be undertaken to produce the Journal are the collation, selection and layout of the Journal contents in preparation for printing. This includes the production of game diagrams (also in a format for the website) and typesetting. Another task is liaising with the printers. Maintaining and expanding the pool of contributors, and developing content through commissioning and discussions with contributors, is also of great importance.
These tasks are distributed across a team of officials on the Journal and Newsletter Committee. It is the job of the Journal Editor, to lead that team and ensure that production deadlines are met.
