Lessons for new joiners: How to take part

From April 2017, the BGA is offering a free online one hour Go teaching game with an established Go player, to those joining the BGA for the first time. This is designed for beginners to get to play the game quickly, as playing the game is usually a better way to lean how to play than reading a set of rules, or for those who have played a few games and wish to learn more about strategy and tactics. Your tutor may also be able to answer any other questions you have about the game.

For the free online introductory lesson, you will need an account on the Online Go Server (OGS).

OGSGS

  1. Go to the Online Go Server (OGS). Click on "Sign In" and then "Register here!" to set up an account. Choose a username and password and make a note of them. When asked to "Select Rank", if you are not sure, just select "25 Kyu: I've never played before".
  2. Contact the Tutor Co-ordinator (tutors@britgo.org) to request a tutor be assigned to you.
  3. When one of our tutors has contacted you, reply to:
    a) Let them know your username on the server
    b) Agree a mutually satisfactory time for the game/lesson
    c) Agree a mutually convenient voice channel. Voice will make for a much better experience than messaging.
    d) Let the tutor know what, if any, experience you have of the game.

NOTES:

The offer is to be taken up within 3 months of joining the BGA

The offer is aimed at beginners or near beginners, so we may not be able to accommodate expert players.
