Twickenham Go Club

This is the web page of the Twickenham Go Club. We meet to play the game of Go, the ancient board game from the Far East popular in Japan, China (where it is known as Weiqi) and Korea (where it is known as Baduk). An attractive feature of the game is the handicapping system which allows players of widely differing ability to play on even terms.

We have about six players who play regularly, and others who drop in occasionally. We are of modest strength (10 - 15 kyu) and are happy to welcome beginners to the club.

Meetings

We meet regularly on Wednesday evenings from around 7.30pm at the The Alexander Pope Hotel (formerly the Pope’s Grotto Hotel), Cross Deep, Twickenham TW1 4RB in south-west London. You will find us in the restaurant section at the back of the main bar. We occasionally “play away”, so ring to check before coming. We usually play quite late, up to midnight, or even later!

How to find us - by public transport

The Pope’s Grotto Hotel is easily accessible by public transport. Our nearest station is Strawberry Hill (about 30 minutes from Waterloo). Exit Strawberry Hill Station and turn left into Tower Road. Continue for 500m to the mini roundabout on the main road and turn left into Cross Deep. The Pope’s Grotto Hotel is 200m ahead on the left. Total walk time about 8 minutes.

Alternatively, take train or underground to Richmond. Then get a 33 bus outside the station heading for Fulwell. Alight at the stop just outside the Pope’s Grotto Hotel.

How to find us - by car

Cross Deep is part of the A310, the main road from Twickenham to Kingston. The Pope’s Grotto Hotel is about 500m south of Twickenham town centre. It is a large floodlit building, easily visible on the west side of the road. There is parking in front of, behind, and underneath the building.
