Promoting Go in the UK and beyond

The Chinese hosts are providing accommodation and food in China free of charge to all participants. They are also supplying a small number of airline tickets free of charge.

So there are significant travel costs for the players which the BGA cannot meet from its own funds and some selected players may not be able to afford. We need to organise some kind of uniform, hopefully in conjunction with the other British sports involved in the WMSG, also a press event/reception to publicise our participation, promote Go and so on.

We would also like to organise a team coaching weekend, probably sometime in September, with some professional coaching if possible. All of this will cost money, so we are appealing for donations to this fund and/or sponsorship from individuals or organisations.

In order to ensure that the best possible team will be available we need to raise a considerable sum. The exact amount has not been determined, and is obviously dependent on the final number of players going, but could be as high as £15,000 if we do not expect players to make a contribution to the costs.
