Syllable Structure | Consonants | Vowels | Go Server Vocabulary
Since the mid-fifteenth century, Korean has been written phonetically using a syllabic script known as "Hangul". Each syllable is made up of "letters" an initial consonant, a vowel which may be a diphthong, and none, one or two final consonants. Within a syllable, the letters are read from left to right and from top to bottom.
For instance, The word "baduk" is written ¹ÙµÏ. This is composed of two syllables, ¹Ù and µÏ.
¹Ù is made up of a consonant and a vowel, ¤² and
¤¿, reading across.
µÏ is made up of a consonant, a vowel and a consonant,
¤§, ¤Ì and ¤¡, reading downwards.

When Hangul syllables are stored on a computer, each syllable is represented by two bytes. —Ñ takes up as much space as ¤Ñ.

It is in Arial because if IE6 displays Times New Roman with Korean character encoding, the right-hand ends of all the lines are truncated.
