This new competition started in late 2010 and replaced the previous European Team Championships. It is played online on Pandanet (IGS) in its own room called "EuropeanTeamChamp". The League is supported by Pandanet, and they also support the top four teams in the top division attending over-the-board finals at the European Go Congress.
The British Go Association has entered a UK team for each year, initially starting in B League. 2013-14 and 2014-15 were spent in the C League, but promotion saw the team back in the B League for 2015-16, where they stayed for 2016-17. Also for season 2016-17 the event was split from 3 into 4 leagues.
