NEWS

British Championship

Congratulations to the youth players who qualified for and played in the Candidate's Tournament (part of the British Championship) in June, and in particular to Scott Cobbold who came 3rd. Alain Cheung and Gene Wong came equal 5th, while Alvina Kwok was 14th and Edmund Smith 16th.

Junior Results

Andrew Volovich (7k) beat Cornwall's Taher Anjari (13k) in the play-off to win the June Handicap event. Lea Wong and Gene Wong won the handicap section at British Pair Go. Alvina Kwok and Alain Cheung were fourth in the actual Pair Go championship section. Here you can see all the junior Pair Go players.

Youth Go Camp

From 10 to 13 August we return to Caythorpe for our fifth "Go Camp". As before, in the mornings there will be a programme of Go tuition, while in the afternoons you will undertake a range of outdoor activities run by professional Caythorpe staff (such as last year's canoeing shown below). The evenings will feature informal tournaments. This will be a chance to mix socially with other young Go players whilst learning more about Go. The fee for the camp is £260 - this will include three nights of accommodation and all meals. We may still have a few spaces available - now also available for those in school year 5 - but these need to be booked urgently. Entry Form

Match Against Hong Kong

We are playing another "SuperGo" match against a team from Hong Kong; currently we are losing 8 -1.

OGS Go Club

The "Go Club" on OGS will meet on 7 August and 4 September, starting at 16:00.

UK Go Challenge

The finals of the UK Go Challenge will take place in the autumn, giving you a chance to enjoy the summer weather rather than being stuck indoors all day. Hopefully it can be combined with the national 13x13 championship for all ages of players.

TEACHING/TRAINING

Our next session for weaker players will be on 4 September at 14:00. Please email youth-chair at britgo.org if you are under 10 kyu and wish to take part. A reminder will be sent nearer the time.

EUROPEAN YOUTH GO TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS

We will again be taking part in the European Youth Team Championshps, to be held between November 2022 and March 2023.

We will take part in four matches over the season, each with a team of five: this team is to be picked from a squad which has to be selected by 15 October.

Our team manager is again Alison Bexfield. To help her select this squad, we will be holding a "selection tournament" on 18 September; this will be your chance to impress her and to be selected for the squad, although participation in the tournament is not essential. Team members must be UK citizens, or have been resident in the UK for two years.

The first match is on 12 November, but It may be possible to amend this date with the agreement of the opponent.

In the last two years we came second and third: let's try and do even better this year!
